BTEC Level Two Intermediate Award

in Physical Restraint Practice

This course allows all staff the opportunity to achieve the only nationally recognised Level two vocationally specific qualification in physical restraint training. To achieve the award delegates will be required to:

  • Investigate reasonable force with regard to physical restraint
  • Explore the Human Rights Act 1998 and how it applies to physical restraint
  • Examine the requirements of Health and Safety statute and how it applies to physical restraint
  • Understand the risks associated with the use of restraint
  • Identify & describe relevant Acts of parliament and government regulations with regard to the physical restraint of vulnerable groups & individuals
  • Explore the risks associated with alcohol, drugs, knives and other edged weapons with regard to physical restraint
  • Differentiate between holding, escorting & restraining and non harmful seated restraint techniques
  • Investigate the difference between non-harmful methods of control and more restrictive methods of control.

The course lasts three days and is suitable for: Door Supervisors, Retail staff, Care staff, Security officers, Court officers, Teaching staff and anyone whose job may need them to physically intervene.

Course includes: manual and BTEC certification
